Ski and Bindings 3D Model

MCEN 1025 Final Project

2020

The goal of this project was to create a realistic 3D model of a complex object. Using SolidWorks, I create a model of my ski and the bindings.  As an overview, there are 16 individual components, 3 subassemblies, a main assembly, and 5 associated engineering drawings (some not pictured).

The way in which I approached the project was to first measure the dimensions of my physical ski using calipers in order to obtain an accurate model.  I measured and then created each part, ensuring that they fit together precisely with subassemblies.  Throughout the project, I made use of 3D sketches, surfacing tools, lofts and sweeps, and GD&T for the engineering drawings.

I learned that attention to detail is crucial when using CAD software, and precision is very important.  I also was able to further explore tools that SolidWorks has to offer, such as surfacing tools, as they were extremely useful for the creation of the less geometric parts of the bindings. Overall, this project demonstrates my proficiency in SolidWorks and my abilities to work efficiently and with attention to detail.
